Jordana Brewster Interview

This week's "Eight By Eva" Supermom, Jordana Brewster, has been just a liiiiitle bit busy the past few years. Besides being a dedicated and hands-on Mom to her adorable son, Julian (2), Jordana has been starring in the Fast and Furious movie franchise, as well as filming back-to-back television roles- You can watch Jordana in American Crime Story and season 2 of ABC's Secrets And Lies early next year! Clearly she is no stranger to juggling a hectic lifestyle and a rambunctious toddler- below, this multitasking maven answers my eight favorite questions:

Jordana Brewster On The Memory Of Paul Walker

30. september 2015 at 11:12 | Gabriella

Things seemed destined to go well for Jordana Brewster right from the beginning. Daughter of a Brazilian model and an investment banker who traces his lineage back to the Mayflower, Brewster was born in the right place with the right face, which may be why she was regularly seen on TV screens by the time she was 15, playing Nikki Munson in As the World Turns.

But not even she could predict that some adolescent car movie she auditioned for back in the late nineties would turn into the seven-installment, multi-billion dollar franchise that The Fast and the Furious became. And even after the tragic loss of Paul Walker in 2013, the high-octane juggernaut continues charging forward with bigger budgets, bigger stunts, and bigger dudes.

With Furious 7 dropping on September 15th, Brewster sat down to talk about learning to drive for the movies, her future with the franchise, and honoring her departed friend, Paul Walker.

Jordana Brewster on Fast & Furious Franchise Post-Paul Walker

15. september 2015 at 23:16 | Gabriella

Jordana Brewster was in college when she was cast as Mia Toretto in The Fast and The Furious, 2001's drag racing crime thriller that unexpectedly spawned a massive global franchise. The films basically made Brewster's acting career, culminating in the recent Furious 7, out this week on Blu-Ray, Digital HD and DVD. The film, which broke $1 billion at the global box office, is bittersweet because it marked the final work of Paul Walker, who passed away two years ago. Furious 7 pays homage to Walker, wrapping up his character's storyline alongside that of Brewster, who plays his onscreen wife. That means the actress isn't certain of her inclusion in future sequels, so she's keeping busy with two TV projects: FX's O.J. Simpson trial drama series, American Crime Story, and the second season of Secrets and Lies, both of which will premiere in 2016. We spoke with Brewster about Furious 7, Walker's legacy, and her fear of working with John Travolta on American Crime Story.

Furious 7 Interview

Finally, our long wait is over: Furious 7 is out on DVD. For those of us who were doing life things like traveling for work and buying a house, this is akin to a national holiday of sorts as we can finally see what all the fuss was about all summer. For other (read: most of you), it's a chance to bring home arguably the most fun movie of the season.

The seventh installment is as big as ever, and as part of the rollout for the DVD release, Uproxx had the chance to speak with Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia in the series. She ranks the franchise's badasses, details her relationship to her character, tells us her favorite song from the soundtracks, and more. She also tries to put into words just how hard it is, even today, to deal with the tragic loss of Paul Walker in late 2013.

Art for Art with Jordana Brewster on motherhood

14. july 2015 at 10:29 | Gabriella

I first met Jordana Brewster at our Mommy & Me class in Santa Monica. Our boys were teeny tiny and just a few months old and we would come in weekly on a Tuesday to share and learn how to navigate the waters of motherhood. As we are both first time moms, it was such a special time in our lives to get through that first year, sometimes feeling victorious and sometimes feeling defeated. We are still in the same class to this day and now experiencing the joys of toddlerhood. She would sometimes have to miss class as a working actor, but she would have playdates at her house, and she would snap photos of her son Julian's milestones and be present and in touch with all his developmental leaps. There were times I got to see her and her amazingly sweet boy Julian each week, and then there are times where weeks pass by because she is on the road and working. She is definitely a go getter and her schedule is non-stop!

How I’m Teaching My Son About My Brazilian Roots

3. may 2015 at 1:12 | Gabriella

My Brazilian roots have become even more important since becoming a mom. As a kid, I lived in London, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. Experiencing all of these different cultures helped broaden my perspective. I want Julian to have the same luxury, despite the fact that he lives in LA. Here are a couple of ways we keep his Brazilian side alive:

1. He knows the importance of family. My family is extremely close knit. My sister, Bella, has a 9-month-old son and lives five minutes away from me. My parents also live in Los Angeles. We see each other on a daily basis. Julian is constantly surrounded by people who love him so much. This is very, very Brazilian. We are all in each other's business and we love each other unconditionally. We also FaceTime and Skype with his Brazilian side of the family nearly every week.

2. He enjoys Brazilian food. When I moved from Rio to New York (at age 10), I gave my mom a lot of grief because she wouldn't pack me a "traditional" lunch of peanut butter and jelly. Instead, she sent me off to school with rice and beans, vegetables, and chicken. Twenty years later, this is exactly how I feed my son. In fact, when Julian turned a year old, we served brigadeiros and quindim, in addition to birthday cake at his party. Maybe one day he will give me the same grief I gave my mom!

3. We listen to Brazilian music. I love playing old Brazilian folk songs for Julian. I sing songs to him that remind me of my childhood growing up in Rio. Singing "Happy Birthday" to Julian in Portuguese is one of the easiest ways to get him to crack a smile.
